I thought I would post a series of safe driving tips based on my training and experience that I hope will be helpful to you.

Most drivers approach intersections too quickly and leave too much braking for the end. When you are having to turn or (may have to) stop at an intersection, lose speed EARLY, so that there is very little braking left to do in the last 30 feet or so. This will help you to

1)     have time to visually process the intersection more thoroughly and identify potential issues you might need to respond to as you are approaching

2)     give you more time to respond to any issues that do arise

3)     help you to enter your turn at a safe speed, or come to a safe and complete stop before entering the intersection if required

4)     help the driver behind you (who may be looking down at their phone!) to not rear end you

5)     avoid the possibility of skidding into the intersection if the road is wet (I have seen it happen!)

If you are proceeding straight through the intersection and do not have to stop, it is a good idea to take your foot off the gas and hover it over the brake pedal as you approach (unless the intersection is completely clear and you have a good view of all sides of it) so that you can respond quickly to anything unexpected that might happen. Remember that intersections are where most accidents happen!
