I have personally been in two accidents as a result of entering a turn/curve too quickly! The first was on a motorcycle when I was in my 20s. I entered a right hand bend a bit too quickly after it had just started to rain — and there was some gravel on the road right at the bend. The tires lost traction, and I laid the bike down and went sliding clear across the lane of oncoming traffic, coming to rest in the shoulder on the other side of the road! I could easily have lost my life that day if there had been an oncoming vehicle. But in God’s kindness, I quite miraculously was able to ride away without a scratch (and only minor damage to the motorcycle).
The second incident happened right here in Dallas not many years later, and this time I was a passenger in a vehicle traveling down the long hill on W. Camp Wisdom Road. It had also just started to rain after a long dry spell (which is when the roads are at their slickest). The driver allowed his vehicle to gain too much speed on the downhill, and braked too late, so that his foot was on the break as we entered the first curve. The station wagon started the fishtail, and we were pointing first left and then right and then back again. We ended up crashing on the right side of the road, taking out a fire hydrant in the process. I thought later that the fire hydrant could so easily have split open our gas tank, and we could’ve gone up in a ball of flames. We all walked away from the accident shaken but on injured. (The car, however, was totaled.) Once again, God was extremely kind to me (and in this case, the several other passengers in the vehicle as well)!
Soooo… please finish braking before you enter that turn or curve so that you are going slow enough that you can take your foot off the brake before entering!
